Originally issued as part of a four-panel page intended to be put into a binder, this is the earliest known image of Cassius Clay on something resembling a trading card. The Man Who Would Be the Greatest is depicted as an Olympian in a journal intended to be viewed by attendees of the 1960 Rome Olympics. At just 18 years old and at the cusp of international stardom, Clay would become the most significant figure to participate in the 1960 Olympics, long before his conversion to Islam and eventual participation in anti-Vietnam counterculture. Hand cut with tremendous precision, this rookie card of the future Muhammad Ali has received a grade of NM/MT 8 by PSA, and presents with tremendous overall visual appeal. Just six examples have graded higher, and this one can be had for a fraction of the nearly six-figure price commanded by the only PSA 10 GEM MINT copy.
