The 1958 Topps set, headlined by the iconic rookie card of Jim Brown and the second-year examples of Unitas, Hornung, and Starr, is one of the most appealing collection ever devoted to the gridiron. But the 1959 Topps series isn't far behind, if at all. The 1959 Topps football collection is loaded with significant rookie cards, including #4 Max McGee, 51 Sam Huff, 103 Alex Karras, 116 Jerry Kramer, 132 Jim Parker, and 140 Bobby Mitchell. And then there's the debut card of Packers running back Jim Taylor (#155), which mistakenly shows a different Jim Taylor of the Chicago Cardinals. The set split into a first and second series of 88 cards each with the first series containing #1 Unitas, 10 Jim Brown, 20 Gifford, 23 Starr, 40 Layne, 51 Huff, 55 Berry, and 82 Hornung. Featured here is a pair of unopened 1st series vending boxes that have not been seen on the open market in decades, if ever. Packed in the traditional and generic TCG box (Trading Card Guild) the 500-card box shows how fresh the cards are at first glance, and who knows how many MINT and GEM MINT examples have defeated the test of time, remaining pristine within their cardboard confines for well over 60 years. If the winning bidder chose to do so, they could make a very significant impact on the PSA population report as well as the set registry. This is one of the truly remarkable offerings to hit the market in a long time as the number of these vending boxes known to exist is very low!
