Combining the on-field shots of the 1957 series with the wildly colorful backdrops of the 1958 collection, Topps produced a 1959 baseball set that appealed to all baseball enthusiasts. Their largest gum set issued to date, the 572-card 1959 Topps set was expanded to include subsets such as the iconic 22-card All Star series (a continuation of the popular 1958 subset), a 31-card "Rookie Stars" selection, a 10-card "Baseball Thrills" series, team cards with checklists, and of course the popular multi-player cards, with such memorable issues as "Fence Busters" (Aaron/Mathews), "NL Hitting Kings" (Mays/Ashburn) and "Corsair Outfield Trio" (Clemente, etc.). The following complete set is ranked #3 on the PSA Set Registry with an overall set rating of 9.484, within striking distance of the top two listings with some key upgrades. Four cards (#46, 265, 376 and 409) are graded PSA 10 GEM MINT, eight cards (#10 Mantle, 78, 79, 189, 336, 471, 500 and 572) are graded PSA 8, and every other card in the collection is graded PSA 9; that includes #50 Mays, 163 Koufax, 180 Berra, 202 Maris, 380 Aaron, 478 Clemente, 515 Killebrew, 550 Campanella, and of course, the highly prized #514 Bob Gibson rookie card. A total of 132 cards presently have single digit populations with five "1 of 2" and seven "1 of 3" cards. Well over 60% of the set, 356 cards to be precise, rank among the highest graded examples on record at PSA. This collection is being offered as a complete set as well as each card offered individually, with the final sale going to whichever total (the set versus the sum of the individual lots) is higher. This gives prospective bidders the opportunity to examine each and every card in the collection through the use of our high-quality scans.
