Even the greatest football players from the 1960s and 1970s, the legends, the Hall of Famers, would be completely overpowered and outclassed in today's game. Except for Jim Brown. Jim Brown was a man out of time, a 6' 2", 228 lb. monster that excelled in basketball, track and field, lacrosse, as well as football at Syracuse University with a combination of power and agility that was unmatched during his era and is still rare today. Though his NFL career was only nine seasons, he held most of the league's rushing records at the time of his retirement. Because of Brown's prowess on the gridiron, his 1958 Topps rookie card has become one of the most desirable football cards in the hobby and compares with the '52 Topps Mantle as the most coveted post-war card of its sport, rivaled only by the 1965 Topps Namath RC. The offered example delivers adequate centering for the issue, devoid of the tilt or diamond cut that is so common. Brown's image is unusually bold and crisp, and the black background is deep and rich with just a minimal presence of the light print dust that appears on virtually every example. The reverse has very minor and forgivable chipping along the edges. This beauty is better than most of its graded NM/MT peers, and after all, you can't go wrong with having a Jim Brown rookie card as a highlight of your collection!
