Mickey Mantle's iconic 1958 Topps All Star issue is one of the single most frequently graded vintage cards on record at PSA. And yet, from all 4,200 submissions, no GEMs have ever surfaced. A regular encounter in mid to lower grades on virtually every vintage dealer's table at any show across the country, it's surprising how high-grade examples, like the offered PSA MINT 9, still manage to startle veteran collectors. Maybe it's the perfect centering, or maybe it's the incisive MINT to GEM MINT perimeter, or maybe it's the simple fact that less that 1% of all similar submissions have achieved the pinnacle MINT 9 status. A slightly rough but still MINT bottom edge and some characteristic print along the left border seem to be the only primary hindrances to attaining merit as the hobby's finest example extant.
