The Mick has never looked better than he does on the shimmering surface of this classic 1958 Topps issue. The offered collectible boasts near perfect centering, front and back, as well as an extremely accurate registration that renders the card’s text, image, and celebrated Yankees team logo in perfect clarity. The front surface is positively caked with gloss and virtually free from print defects. The colors are strong yet warm, and the pumpkin-colored background is definitely suggestive of October baseball, when “The Commerce Comet” shined most brightly. The corners as well as the edges are well within the parameters of the opinioned graded, and they are perhaps the only features keeping this pack-fresh blazer from a GEM MINT holder. Of the nearly 2400 examples submitted to PSA for review, less than 1% have graded MINT. In fact, excepting the difficult ‘52 and ‘53 Topps issues, this is Mantle’s toughest 1950s Topps card to find in a PSA MINT 9 holder. Good luck.
