With the cards in the collection all SGC graded and most stamped "58" on the surface, this 1958 Topps football set may very well have been an internal proof not meant for circulation. At first thought, one might think a collector used a rubber stamp to mark each card, a poor decision in retrospect. However, the "58" stamping appears to have been placed on the surface before the final application of gloss, suggesting it originated at the Topps factory, though that cannot be verified. All but 12 of the cards are graded SGC 2 or SGC 1.5 (with #2 Layne SGC 1 and 66 Starr SGC 2.5) but present clearly sharper and far superior to the technical grades, restrained due to the stamping.
