So beloved in the city for which he played his entire 23-year career, it was said of Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson, "Brooks never had a candy bar named after him. In Baltimore, people named their children after him." Over the course of his Hall of Fame career, Brooks Robinson amassed 16 consecutive Gold Glove awards at the hot corner, hence his most famous nickname, "The Human Vacuum Cleaner," and he also made 15 straight appearances in the mid-summer classic. He won two World Series with the Birds in 1964 and 1970, winning MVP awards for the '64 season (edging out Mickey Mantle) and for the 1970 World Series. Offered is an intensely bold and amazingly sharp example of Robinson's appropriately orange-hued 1957 Topps rookie issue. Graded PSA 9, a label surpassed by one lone specimen out of almost 2,500 submissions, the easiest way to sum up this card is that it's GEM MINT in virtually every respect except for the slightest centering preference for the top edge. Each corner is GEM MINT, the central image is bright with accurate registration and the reverse is exactly as it should be. There probably weren't many cards that came directly out of the pack in 1957 that could stack up to this one!
