Every so often, you see a highly-recognized card in NM to NM/MT condition and you're impressed. But then you come across an elite example in MINT condition and it suddenly changes your perspective, making every specimen you've seen before inadequate. Such is the case with this powerful 1957 Topps rookie card of Johnny Unitas. One quick look at this incredible pasteboard and the colors orange and green take on a whole new connotation, providing an education into what it must have been like to walk into the local five and dime, plunk down your nickel and break the wax seal to discover Johnny Unitas a few cards into the stack. With the depth of the dual backdrop established at record levels, the sheer brilliance of the white border prominently steps forth in contrast to advertise the near perfection of the centering as well as the virtual flawlessness of the endpoints while allowing the naked eye to catch every contour of the rough-cut edges. The reverse is an amazingly clean canvas with bold, fresh print. Only one other has matched this card at SGC 96 MINT 9 with none higher.
