The United States doesn't have a monarchy, but it certainly had a king. From the start of his career in 1953 to his untimely demise in 1977, Elvis Presley captivated America with his silky voice, gyrating hips and innovative fusion of rock, country, gospel and rhythm and blues beats. Without a specific genre in which to classify his unique but undoubtedly southern style, music critics termed Elvis' music "rockabilly," meaning it was "rock and roll for hillbillies." His crossover appeal has landed him in the Rock and Roll, Gospel, and Country Music Halls of Fame, joining Johnny Cash as the only members to achieve such a distinction. Sensing the wave of popularity that would be repeated less than a decade later with the Beatles and the "British Invasion", Topps jumped on board with a 66-card collection in 1956 that chronicled the singer's meteoric rise to superstardom in wonderful color shots that capture "The King" in close up portraits or entertaining his massive army of fans on stage. The offered collection is completely PSA graded and ranks #2 on the PSA Set Registry with a set rating of 9.076 overall. Almost half the set, 30 of 66 cards, are graded PSA 9, including card #20 which is a 1 of 1 with none higher. The rest of the set is graded PSA 8.
