Though the Roberto Clemente rookie card might claim the top spot as the most coveted issue from the 1955 Topps series, the debut card of Sandy Koufax isn't far behind and would ably lead just about any collection that came after it. Keeper of the most dominant four-year stretch any hurler has ever seen with a 97-27 record from 1961-1965, Koufax is presented on this PSA 8 example of his rookie card. Centered just a touch toward the horizontal top but superior to most at this grade level, the yellow background transitions from bright lemon to a subtle cream, forming the perfect backdrop for the 19 year old future Hall of Famer. The stray print dots that commonly plague the upper portion of the background are minor for the issue, leaving the hobbyist to focus on the clarity of the image and the ample dosage of factory gloss. The reverse has the usual toning of the white surface with robust red and green color, with the familiar blank slate where statistics should be, instead substituting "NOT IN ORGANIZED BASEBALL." This is truly an alluring card worthy of even the most demanding of collectors.
