As with the 1962 Topps set almost a decade later, the 1955 Bowman series was a source of polarizing views as many collectors like the wood-grained "TV style" format while others were less enthusiastic. But without a Mantle card in the 1955 Topps series, you had to go all-in with Bowman if you wanted "The Mick" in your collection. Finally emerging as the young phenom that the Yankees had pinned their hopes on, Mantle was rapidly closing in on the 100 home run mark at the time of this card's production. The offered 1955 Bowman pasteboard shows a fantastic, crisply detailed image of the youthful Mickey Mantle with excellent color and contrast amplified by a shimmering layer of original factory gloss. The perimeter doesn't completely divest itself of chipping along the susceptible full-bleed edges, but it is strong enough to earn a PSA 8 rating and just 15 examples have been graded higher from over 3,500 submissions.
