The 1955 Boston Red Sox had just completed a doubleheader on Sunday, June 25th and had Monday off before playing another twin-bill on the 27th. But that was the day the team had learned that "The Golden Greek", first baseman Harry Agganis, had passed away at age 26 following a season-long battle with pneumonia and a viral infection. Agganis played only 25 games in 1955 but was with the team to sign this OAL (Harridge) baseball, one of the few known to exist. Also signing this well-preserved orb is Higgins, Baker, Stephens, Nixon, White, Henry, Jensen, Daley, Goodman, Parnell, Zauchin, Hurd, Hatton, Klaus, Kinder, Delock, Joost, Olson, Brewer and Bolling. The Ted Williams signature is clubhouse. Full LOA from JSA.
