The 1955 Ashland/Aetna Oil Basketball card set contains 96 black and white cards of collegiate basketball players, from selected universities in Kentucky and West Virginia. Also known as Aetna Gasoline, the cards measure 2 5/8" by 3 3/4". These cards can feature one of two different backs featuring advertisements for either the Ashland or Aetna oil companies, with cards having the Aetna oil back commanding a premium. The most sought after card in the 1955 Ashland Oil/Aetna Oil basketball card set is that of Adolph Rupp, the legendary coach of Kentucky. The featured group includes 67 cards all with the more scarce Aetna Oil reverse advertisements. The offered cards grade 40% NM or better, 25% EX/MT, 20% EX and 15% lesser with the Rupp card grading EX or so. Please note there is duplication and there are no Hundly cards because he went to West Virginia and the Aetna Oil cards were only distributed in Ohio.
