Plug into the Mays movement with this scintillating PSA MINT 9! Ranking in the top 0.8% of all submissions to PSA, the offered 1954 Topps Willie Mays must be considered among the finest Mays collectibles extant. With just ten competitors in its class and no examples graded higher, the offered cardboard paragon joins the ‘51 and ‘52 Bowman and ‘52 and ‘53 Topps issues as one the most recognizable yet “untouchable” Mays collectibles from the first half of the 1950s. With early high-grade examples of his most prominent issues boasting unsurpassed potential, Mays items have enjoyed a recent renaissance with enthusiasts, challenging even Mickey Mantle’s grasp on the hobby. The offered imponderable specimen displays perfectly symmetrical borders, MINT to GEM MINT corners, MINT edges, superb registration, and a shimmering surface with a few miniscule touches of green ink, no doubt the result of stacking. Even more impressive than its commanding surface, however, is its remarkably immaculate reverse. Perfectly centered with a powerful green print registration, both the corners and edges show no traces of the chipping that typically plagues this issue. Judged strictly on the merits its flawless reverse, the offered specimen would rank as the first and only GEM MINT 10, as no superior examples exist. Step up to the plate with this major league collectible and smash a hit with an intelligent bid! Just don’t underestimate Willie’s ability to cover the field.
