Whitey Ford's name doesn't often get mentioned among the greatest pitchers of all time, but his career body of work is mostly comprised of seasons with double-digit wins and single-digit losses. After a two-year stint in the military, "The Chairman of the Board" appears on this 1954 Topps card as a 26-year old hurler with a career 27-7 record. Graded PSA 9 MINT, it's one of only 9 to earn such a grade with none graded higher, so we have to think that the top set-builders on the PSA Set Registry are taking notice. Virtually perfect centering and endpoints that seem to qualify for a GEM MINT assessment are the highlights, but the fantastic registration, bold powder blue backdrop, and virtually chip-free reverse has us thinking that if this card landed in a holder with a GEM MINT flip, absolutely no one would question it.
