When Parkhurst released the 1953-1954 hockey set, the public was immediately enamored with the brighter colors and engaging action shots. But even more enticing to collectors was the greatly increased size of the cards, taking a cue from Bowman's attempt to challenge Topps in the baseball card market. Also new was the printing of biographical information in both English and French, hoping to expand its customer base in Canada. While not loaded with rookies, several significant Hall of Famers made their pasteboard debut, including Jean Beliveau, Gump Worsley, Andy Bathgate, and Harry Howell. The featured master complete set is ranked #3 on the PSA Set Registry with an overall rating of 8.508. Of the 100 cards in the series, 39 are graded PSA 9 (including #38 Dineen, 46 Sawchuk, and 47 Delvecchio), five are graded PSA 8.5, and the rest are graded PSA 8 save for two (#8 Thomson PSA 7 and 9 Stewart PSA 6). Almost a third of the cards in the set (32 cards) are the highest ever graded, leaving room for improvement should you desire to move up on the list. A link to the complete card by card breakdown of this set, including individual grades and populations, will be available through our website or by visiting the PSA Set Registry. This collection is being offered as a complete set as well as each card offered individually, with the final sale going to whichever total (the set versus the sum of the individual lots) is higher. This gives prospective bidders the opportunity to examine each and every card in the collection through the use of our high-quality scans. For a complete breakdown of this set, please visit our website for a link to the PSA Set Registry. Placing a bid on this lot constitutes bidding on the complete set.
