If you've been following recent sales of 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle cards in mid to upper grade over the past few months, you've seen record prices realized virtually every time a new one comes up for auction. Even the lower grade examples are showing a sharp upward trend in prices, making many buyers that were previously in the market for a mid grade example having to scale back to a lower-grade card. The featured example is grade GOOD+ 2.5 by PSA and represents well for the grade. First off, the centering is extremely accurate and beats out a lot of examples in the mid to upper grades. The image of Mantle and the surrounding blue-aqua backdrop is also superior to the grade while the consistency of the expected worn and rounded edges make it so you don't notice any glaring liabilities, leaving your attention where it should be, on the iconic image of "The Commerce Comet." While the technical grade is limited by a small crease in the upper left quadrant, it's not a terribly obvious defect and allows the winning bidder to acquire a lower grade 1952 Topps Mantle that has the eye appeal of a specimen graded higher. If you've been targeting one at around this grade level, you probably won't find a more appealing pasteboard.
