Most collectors view the 1952 Topps set as being led by four significant cards: the first and last card (#1 Pafko and #407 Mathews) and the game's two biggest up and coming stars, #311 Mantle and #261 Mays. Like Mantle, Mays showed flashes of greatness in his rookie season in 1951. Off to a slow start in 1952, Mays went into the army, returning in 1954 to win the National League batting crown and flourishing into the baseball legend we call "The Say Hey Kid." The offered example is presented for your considered approval in solid EX/MT 6 condition as determined by PSA, displaying at a level that ably justifies the technical assessment. The stunning clarity of the five-tool player's image is brought alive by deeply struck pigments and amplified even further by a fresh-looking application of original factory gloss. The border reveals a slight counter-clockwise turn, nothing at all detrimental, and the reverse is clean and blemish-free. If you're looking for an extremely presentable mid-grade specimen to add to your collection, look no further.
