Reserved for Bowman's high-number series, Hall of Famer Willie Mays was already serving in the United States Army when this card was produced, his 1952 season limited to just 34 games. After missing the entire 1953 season, Mays returned to win the National League batting title in 1954 and launched one of the greatest careers in baseball history. This example is graded SGC 86 NM+ 7.5 and features NM/MT to MINT endpoints which counter the centering bias toward the northeast. The image of Mays is clean and well-printed with a light rough cut lining the right side.
