If it weren't for a guy named Mantle, the 1951 Bowman rookie card of Willie Mays would undoubtedly be the top pasteboard of the 1950s. The featured card is graded PSA 3, clearly showing wear around the perimeter commensurate with the grade. But what this exemplary piece has over others in its grading tier is a robust central image with minimal encumbrances and very respectable centering, lightly positioned toward the bottom edge but not so much that it completely draws your attention. A card at this grade level will invariably have flaws, but this example minimizes their impact. And it's a Willie Mays rookie card!
