Graded EX/NM 6 by SGC. I want to state unequivocally that this is most likely the most under graded high profile card that I have witnessed in over 25 years full time in this business! The featured collectible appears without question to be of a strong NM/MT level. The obverse of the card features a stunning and alluring image of the Oklahoma Kid posed with a steely blue Yankee cap resting above his head as well as a slate grey road jersey adorning his teenage physic. Mantle had gained national attention when in spring training his then manager Casey Stengel fired out this quote “He (Mickey Mantle) should lead the league in everything. With his combination of speed and power he should win the triple batting crown every year. In fact, he should do anything he wants to do.” Each of the four points comes to exact intersections with absolutely no apparent wear to be encountered, conservatively I would grade the corners each NM/MT or better. The surface offers a regal superlative shimmer of original gloss as well as scintillating color that really seems to elevate this offering past many if not all copies we encounter. The centering is astute with a grade of NM/MT or better with bright white borders that perfectly contrast against the colorful interior of the card. The reverse is ever so slightly light in the printing in the middle of the card which may be the only reason for the exceptionally harsh assessment (with this said we still believe the card should have grade much higher) After looking at the offered card I really believe that though the keepsake has been graded EX/NM by SGC, we here at MHCC feel so strong in this card that we are willing to look past the opined assessment and call this card a strict NM/MT example. Please buy the card, not the holder!
