These 5" x 7" black & white photos were produced by Wheaties as an eight-card premium set during Mantle's rookie campaign of 1951. Commonly attributed to General Mills, the cards were produced by the cereal company as a "test issue" in order to determine the popularity that such a set would have with the public. After a brief period, the cards were pulled because of the company's inability to come to terms with some of the featured players. Incredible focus and clarity, perfect centering, sharp corners, bright white borders, and a clean blank reverse all combine to create a masterpiece that is aesthetically pleasing to the eye and is consistent with that of a NM to MINT copy. Upon close examination, a faint impression situated near the upper left border is the only blemish accounting for its modest mid-grade assessment of PSA 5.
