On June 13, 1948, Yankee fans would embrace Babe Ruth during a ceremony to retire his uniform number 3. A sold out Yankee Stadium cheered, as the mighty bambino would wear his Yankee pinstripes one last time. Herald Tribune photographer Nat Fein is known for capturing this famous sports photo, and Pulitzer Prize-winning shot of the immortal No. 3 standing by home plate during our National Anthem. Associated Press photographer Chunky Harry Harris was essentially positioned alongside Fein and took a nearly identical shot, yet failed to receive the same recognition as the aforementioned Fein. The offered "8 x "10 Type II image made during the 1950's grades EX-MT/NM and bears handwritten notations and press stampings on the reverse, and should provide a more affordable alternative to a Type I image.
