Stanley Orville Spence was a left-handed hitting outfielder who played for the Red Sox, Senators, and Browns from 1940-49. This four time All-Star who hailed from Portsmouth, Kentucky, finished with a lifetime batting average of .282. The color variance between the red pin-striping that frame his jersey, and the dark blue Boston hat pop out at you on this high-end '49 Bowman card with four strong corners, and near perfect centering. With it being only 1 of 6 to adorn this high mint grade achievement, and none graded any higher, one can only imagine the set builders frenzy about to take place over this card.
