Satchel Paige was 42 years and 2 days old on the day of his MLB debut. The “rookie” was of course an accomplished 20+ year veteran, perhaps the best pitcher in organized baseball, who just happened to be black. Despite his advanced age, he would pitch into his mid 60s and was famous for his “Rules for Staying Young,” such as, “Keep the juices flowing by jangling around gently as you move.” Offered is a stalwart PSA EX/MT 6 example of Satchel’s single-printed 1948 Leaf RC card. Above-grade corners and edges surround an adequately registered image that strongly favors the bottom and left edges, but not enough for an OC qualifier. The reverse is clean, and the front surface exhibits mild aging and a small blemish left of Leroy’s chin. A desirable example of a meaningful major-league RC!
