The first sentence on the reverse adequately closes the book on nearly a century of racial segregation in professional baseball, making this one of the most important pasteboards ever produced. While the centering of this 1948 Leaf rookie card of Jackie Robinson clearly favors the northeast quadrant, the card enjoys an overall assessment of SGC 60 EX 5 because the corners and edges are more in line with EX/MT to NM specimens and the central image color is as bold as we've ever seen for the issue. Of interesting note is the red pigmentation that runs along the brim of the Dodgers cap, not the black coloring that appears on virtually every other example. The quality control of the '48 Leaf series was in major need of improvement with examples of any given player showing variances in color, but this is unusual even for Leaf standards. An important example of a baseball immortal that is unquestionably a necessity in any world-class vintage collection.
