There are few baseball cards that are considered a bookmark in the chronicles of American history but the 1948 Leaf example of Jackie Robinson is undoubtedly one of them. The first black ballplayer to join the major-league ranks and an inspiration to all that came after, Jackie Robinson was included in the ill-fated 1948 Leaf series, a collection fraught with poor quality control. The featured card is a victim of some of those flaws while sidestepping others to reach an overall grade of SGC 3 VG. The most common malady is poor centering but this example is actually very accurate for the issue with a very slight shift toward the bottom edge. The blue and yellow pigmentation is particularly bright but the yellow backdrop houses a smattering of stray print. The corners and edges are in line with the grade any maybe slightly better. At this grade level, this historic piece is an admirable representation of the legendary Jackie Robinson.
1948 Leaf #79 Jackie Robinson SGC 3 VG
