One of the first sets to be produced following the end of World War II, the Bowman Gum Company's inaugural baseball card set of 1948 marks the beginning of the golden era in baseball card production. With no major sets issued since 1941, many of the cards in the collection are considered rookie cards, though some of the subjects had been in the league for several years.
