Presenting an extremely significant 8 1/2" x 14" one-page contract, dated December 8, 1945 between Ed Barrow, and Babe Ruth. The contract calls for a time loan to be paid at maturity made to Ruth and promise to pay back the Rye National Bank at a rate of 3% per annum, having deposited with the bank as security for the payment of this note and for all other liabilities of the undersigned as hereinafter defined, the following property, viz: Note for 25,000.00 dated Feruary 21, 1945 due April 1, 1946 at Corn Exchange Bank # 1 East 42nd St. New York made by L.F. Macphail, Daniel R. Topping by Arthur Friedlander, Atty - Del Webb and George H. Ruth. The contract has been signed in black fountain pen, uncommonly and exactly "George Herman Ruth" in blue steel tip fountain pen with a signature that grades an "8-9" for overall quality. At bottom former Major League Baseball Manager and Yankee executive, Ed Barrow has boldly inscribed "Edward G. Barrow" also in blue steel tip fountain pen. To the left of Barrow's signature is a date stamp of March 19, 1946 along with hand written notations of #154 and Apr. 8, 1946. The contract itself presents as high grade, although there are 3 tiny 1/4" tears along the right edge and the normal fold lines associated with any contract, letter or document, which take nothing away from the overall visual appeal of the offered specimen. A full LOA signed by the unwavering hand of James Spence of (JSA) James Spence Authentication, whose expertise and hobby tenure as an autograph expert are exceeded by none, is included with this extremely rare style signed contract. A must have for every advanced collector of Babe Ruth Autographs and related Memorabilia. Strongly recommended.
