Presenting one of the most iconic and popular sports cards in the entire hobby: the 1941 Play Ball Ted Williams. In 1941, the Splendid Splinter posted the last .400 or better average on record. In true heroic form, he actually finished the season at .406, memorably going into the last day, a double-header, at .3996, which would have rounded up had he decided to sit. But he didn't because a true champion doesn't sit himself in favor of numbers, he doesn't take the conservative approach. Instead, Williams bashed another six hits on that historic day, and no one has matched that accomplishment yet. The offered collectible keepsake has emerged from the SGC grading room with a designation of NM/MT 8 and is certainly among the finest examples we have ever offered. Centering on this beauty is virtually unimprovable, and three corners appear MINT while surface colors remain bold and lively. A clean, well-struck reverse complements the obverse to perfection, making this one a truly impressive pasteboard that is sure to please the lucky winning bidder. The offered card is a recently graded specimen and it comes with my highest recommendation.
