Similar in design but slightly smaller than the more common R303-A Goudey Premiums, the 1939 V351 World Wide Gum (Canadian Goudey) Premiums measure 4” x 5-3/4” and are printed in sepia tones on cream-colored paper. Like their American counterparts, backs feature “How to...” playing tips with a “Lithographed in Canada” line in the lower right corner. The back of the offered premium features an apropos “How to Bat” illustration, as the surface features one of the game’s all-time best batters, “The Yankee Clipper,” Giuseppe Pailo DiMaggio. With near perfect centering that perhaps favors the top edge by a nanometer, perfect surfaces, a bold sepia print with excellent contrast, and NM/MT edges and corners, it’s surprising that the offered example did not receive a higher grade than the SGC-opinioned mark of NM 7. Then again, with no known examples at PSA (excepting card #1, Morris Arnovich), and just a single competitor at SGC (in an EX 5 holder), let’s not quibble about the relatively immaterial numerical grade assigned to the finest 1939 World Wide Gum Joe DiMaggio extant.
1939 World Wide Gum V351 Joe DiMaggio SGC 84 (7) NM
