The offered 1933 Sport Kings card features the most famous athlete in American history, Babe Ruth. Nearing the conclusion of his storybook career, the 38-year old Ruth was still able to put up numbers that, while no longer at the top of the league, were still far ahead of anything that ever existed before his career began almost 20 years ago. Already possessing all-time baseball records that were sure to stand for decades, it certainly seemed like a smart business decision to have Ruth make a quartet of appearances in the inaugural Goudey series of the same year. However, his incredible magnetism and larger than life persona made it so that no matter how many times he appeared on cardboard, the demand would always outpace the supply. The key figure in a collection focusing on people with extraordinary talents, the Sport Kings series didn't have as broad appeal as Goudey, making "The Bambino's" presence in the collection much tougher to find in elite grade. The featured piece is one of those rare few with a well-registered Ruth in his glory taking center stage, flanked by a clean olive green backdrop and supported by four corners of true NM/MT quality if not slightly better. The reverse is particularly impressive for the issue, a clean off-white canvas housing unusually bold and bright green lettering, amazingly fresh and well-preserved. With just 3 specimens graded higher by PSA, this NM/MT example of Babe Ruth could easily stand as the centerpiece to any world-class collection.
