Hall of Fame Dizzy Dean, much like Muhammad Ali and Joe Namath decades later, liked to brag about his prowess and make public predictions. But for all of his bluster, it was said that he'd give a teammate a shirt off his back. Well, at least a jacket anyway. Presented is Dizzy Dean's 1932 game-worn warn-up jacket, gifted to teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Jim Bottomley following Dean's rookie season and Bottomley's final year with the St. Louis Cardinals. Dean got the call up to the '32 squad after demolishing the Texas League the prior year as a 21-year old, posting a 26-10 record with an unfathomable 1.57 ERA. Dean picked up right where he left off for the parent squad, leading the team with 18 wins in his rookie year. Dean would go on to post four consecutive 20+ win seasons from there, including a 30-win campaign in 1934 that netted him a World Series championship and the National League MVP award. The size 44 Spalding jacket is decked out in Cardinals' red and black and has six main buttons with two smaller buttons on the bottom, with Dean's number "17" at the back of the inside lining. The jacket is in remarkable condition overall with just scant evidence of its age, the Spalding label and "44" team size swatch very well preserved. This jacket comes from the estate of Sunny Jim Bottomley and has been passed down through the family over the years. LOA from Photo-match.com
