Hollywood's first movie star in the genre of westerns, actor Tom Mix appeared in almost 300 films during his career, all but nine being silent movies from 1909 to 1935. Here's Mix shaking hands with legendary pitcher turned manager Walter Johnson on this original type I photo, measuring 6" x 8." This high-quality photo shows no surface cracking save for a slight wrinkle in the lower right corner, quite remarkable for its age, and the reverse has an International Press Photos stamp with editor's notes that read, "Tom Mix shaking hands with Walter Johnson at the Wash. D. C. ballpark on Sept. 1st, 1930".
