Even many advanced hockey card collectors are unfamiliar with the 1923-24 William Paterson hockey series, but those in the know liken it to the difficult George C. Miller baseball collection in terms of scarcity. The 40-card collection, featuring the finest ice kings of the day, is actually an anonymous assemblage as there are no identifiers though widely accepted to have been distributed by Canadian confectioner William Patterson, Ltd. Featuring Georges Vezina (PSA 7, one of one with just one graded higher) and the rookie cards of King Clancy (PSA 6, 2 graded higher), Cy Denneny (PSA 6, only 1 graded higher), Aurel Joliat (PSA 8, 1 of 1 none graded higher) and Howie Morenz (PSA 5), the offered set is #2 on the PSA Set Registry with a set rating of 5.68 and contains 3 cards that stand alone as one of ones with none graded higher while 8 others share the honor of highest ever graded. The Joliat RC #14 is one of only 6 in the entire series to earn a grade of PSA 8 with none graded higher. Of the 38 William Paterson cards to earn a grade of NM 7 as reported by PSA, 11 of them are included in this set. Card #29 Bert Corbeau is not included, but being recognized as the "T206 Wagner" of hockey cards, the Corbeau card is so scarce that it is not considered to be essential to complete the set. For a complete breakdown of cards, grades and population of each, please visit our website for a link to the PSA Set Registry.
