Produced by the Kromo Gravue Photo Company of Detroit Michigan, the 1922 W575-2 set, often referred to as the "autograph on shoulder series" due to the placement of facsimile signatures, is a 40-card issue that features some of baseball's greatest legends, led by Ruth, Cobb, Hornsby, and Speaker. While given a "W" designation symbolizing a strip card, these black and white cards do not appear to be hand cut and are uniform in size and shape, measuring approximately 2-1/8" x 3-3/8." To say that W575-2 cards are rare would be an understatement since the staff at Mile High Card Company, with a cumulative total of over 100 years of baseball card experience, has never seen more that a few examples situated in one location. Only one other entry appears on the PSA Set Registry and it is five cards short of completion. Therefore, this presented compilation is the most complete W575-2 set known in the hobby, with just 2 cards missing, Frankie Frisch and Everett Scott. While the incredible rarity of the offering transcends the technical grades from PSA, it should be noted that the actual grades seem very conservative. In fact, only one card has ever graded above PSA 6 from all W575-2 ever submitted to PSA. Eight cards in this group have been given an (MK) qualifier, and we are told it is because there was a pencil written "x" on the reverse, about 1/4" in length, that was later erased but left a slight indentation if you view it at a certain angle. Without being able to pinpoint the mark on any of those eight cards myself, the alleged blemishes seem completely inconsequential. What is significant is the enormous opportunity that exists for the baseball card collecting community. Eight of the cards in the set are "one of one," the only specimen in its class with none graded higher, including PSA 6 cards of Joe Judge and Derrill Pratt, two of just 7 to grade PSA 6 out of all W575-2 PSA submissions. The Babe Ruth card is one of the least known in the hobby and is graded PSA 4(MK) while the Cobb has some creases but still seems harshly graded at PSA 1.
