One of the most famously eccentric Babe Ruth baseball cards ever produced is unquestionably the E121 American Caramel "Series of 120" issue of his "Holding Bird" variation, with his first name in quotes. Yet again, Mile High Card Company rises above the competition to bring you the hobby's finest known example of another "Ruthian" Hall of Fame issue. The single highest graded example in the hobby from any of the major grading companies, it features a dizzying array of significantly above-grade NM to NM/MT and even better features in every scrutable category except for a few very well-hidden chips in the surface enamel at three points around the perimeter: just right of the top left corner, just south of the top right corner, and just left of the bottom right corner. Almost impossible to detect with the naked eye, it's also difficult to call these microscopic rough spots "chips," partly because they are so small and thin and on an already super thin card stock, but mostly just because they're so darn hard to detect. Other than these areas, the edges rate NM/MT, as do their culminating corners, as does the centering of both surfaces, as do both surfaces themselves. SGC has reviewed 38 total copies encompassing all varieties, awarding just 2 grades of EX/NM 6 at the top of the pop report, one to an unspecified variation and the second to the presented NM/MT-seeming masterpiece. PSA, on the other hand, has reviewed 53 total copies and never awarded anything over EX 5. If you're familiar with the issue, you've probably seen dozens upon dozens of low-grade examples in the POOR to FAIR range, so many, in fact, that you may never have really developed a very favorable opinion of the issue. One look at this mind-twisting eye-opener, however, and you'll likely never see it in quite the same light again. Truly spectacular, and very rightfully the finest known example in existence!
