The World tour made by the New York Giants and Chicago White Sox around 1914 was, without question, a highly celebrated event at the time it happened. Presented for your viewing pleasure is an extremely rare Type I - 1st generation photograph from that World Tour taken in Egypt. This exceptional period photo measures 9" x 11 1/2", and should make a great conversation piece for many years to come. Highlighted by incredible clarity, it captures 20 people and 5 camels. All of the players are in their respective uniforms: six White Sox, and five Giants. The two most prominent players pictured here are Buck Weaver and Hall of Famer Sam Crawford (on the tour as a member of Chicago). Also recognizable are both Chief Meyers and Hans Lobert of the Giants. Everyone appears to be having fun, and a few of the players have replaced their baseball caps with a fez, a commonly worn lid during that period. The Sphinx in the background and use of the camels in the main portion of the picture add a dimension to this very high grade specimen which was very likely created as a special keepsake for players. Any and all original souvenirs from the 1913/1914 World Tour are rare, especially photos. This is a very striking and dramatic image. The original photograph, which is printed on heavy cardboard stock, has a few scratches, impressions, and a scant trace of staining which takes nothing away from the sheer beauty of the image. However, this is an extremely rare, important, and historic photograph from Egypt taken during the 1914 World Tour. Overall in NM/NM-MT condition, it is accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA
