One of the most recognized cards from the early 20th Century, the T205 card of Christy Mathewson trails only Ty Cobb as the most coveted non-variation issue from the famed gold-bordered set. At this point in Mathewson's career, "Big Six" had already notched 263 lifetime wins, including eight consecutive 20-win seasons, with a career 1.97 ERA and he still hadn't yet reached the age of 30. The featured cardboard collectible stands as one of the finest in existence with but a handful of examples that can compare to this beauty for quality. The centering is outstanding, just slightly to the left of dead-center, with virtually chip-free edges and relatively minimal chipping along the NM endpoints. The surface quality is superb on both the front and back, with the precise image of Mathewson on the front complemented by robust red lettering on the reverse. A magnificent specimen that any top-rated collection would welcome!
