If you've never seen a Brunners Bread card in a grade of PSA 8 before, don't despair for you're in good company. That's because there are just 11 examples graded PSA 8 with only three graded a half-point higher in the entire series, a total of just under 500 PSA submissions. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that this example of infamous New York first baseman Hal Chase stands alone at the NM/MT level, three full grades higher than the next best-known example on the PSA pop report. One of the first true stars of the New York Yankees franchise (known as the Highlanders at that time), Chase's legacy became tainted as he allegedly gambled on baseball games while purposely engaging in suspicious play to lose games in which he and other had wagered on as well. Nevertheless, his career spanned 15 seasons with stops in Chicago, Buffalo, Cincinnati, and back to New York with the Giants. Glowing green and yellow color support the artistic image of a contorting Chase making a snag on a line drive, perfectly centered with endpoints that barely show the slightest hint of wear as well as a Brunners Butter Krust reverse that is out of the pack, or should we say, out of the loaf fresh! One of the finest examples in existence from the entire collection!
