The presented example of Fred Clarke's notoriously challenging E93 Standard Caramel issue has been graded SGC 84 NM 7 and is the only example in its class at SGC with none higher, with just a single competitor at PSA with only 2 higher. Not only is this a Pop 1 at SGC, but this card is so difficult that the Parsippany grading firm reports just a single example on record in each of its two preceding grading tiers, SGC 80 (6) and SGC 70 (5.5), from over 40 submissions on record. Population data aside, this remarkable specimen would be a shoe-in for NM/MT consideration were the centering shifted a few millimeters to the left. NM+ corners join NM/MT+ edges around a clean obverse devoid of any particularly prominent print imperfections. The reverse, finally, shows no questionable areas of subtle paper loss (so common to the issue), but it does show a few spots of bleeding from being stacked against a freshly printed example over 99 years ago. Either which way you look at it, this is 1 of the top 4 examples extant of what is widely regarded the single most challenging Hall of Fame issue from the much lauded E93 Standard Caramel issue. Aspiring Set Registry leaders take heed: this card could make or break even the finest assemblies on record!
