Much like Honus Wagner, the casual baseball card collector is more likely to associate Hall of Famer Eddie Plank with his scarce T206 card than his 324 lifetime wins. A 2-time World Series champion with Connie Mack's Philadelphia A's, Plank was the longtime ace of a staff that included fellow Cooperstown immortals Rube Waddell and Chief Bender. "Gettysburg Eddie" already had five 20-win seasons under his belt when this E93 Standard Caramel card was produced and not a single PSA graded specimen has rated higher than the PSA 8 specimen featured here. The perfectly presented central image, snow white border and strong MINT endpoints rival even the PSA 9 examples offered in this auction, though the positioning toward the right edge keeps it on the a level matched by just one other. An incredibly pristine pasteboard that is undoubtedly museum quality.
