It's hard to image an "underrated" Hall of Famer, but Clark Griffith's contribution to baseball goes much deeper than most realize. Not only did "The Old Fox" notch 237 lifetime victories and seven 20+ win seasons, six of them consecutively, but Griffith also posted 1,491 wins as a Manager and owned the Senators from 1920-1955. He was the skipper of the Cincinnati Reds in 1910 when the Standard Caramel company included him in their 30-card collection. The presented card is the lone survivor to earn a grade of PSA 8 with only one graded higher. Even the casual collector can't help but be drawn to the rich color of the central image, specifically the brilliant red cap that blends so well with the green background and deep blue color of Griffith's sweater. While the centering does favor the right edge, the MINT to MINT+ corners elevate this pasteboard's status to truly legendary levels.
