Graded EX/NM 6 by SGC. At the plate, the 6'1", 175-pound left-handed swinger often gripped the bat with his hands several inches apart, but usually brought them back together during his swing. A powerful hitter, Cobb led the league in slugging percentage eight times and paced the circuit in doubles three times and triples four times. Yet he was also a scientific hitter who liked to beat out bunts and infield grounders for base hits. After 1920, Cobb became a passionate defender of the Deadball Era-style of play, derisively mocking the "swing crazy" batters of the modern game who had neglected the inside strategies mastered by the Georgia Peach. Baseball is a red-blooded sport for red-blooded men. It's no pink tea, and mollycoddles had better stay out. It's a struggle for supremacy, a survival of the fittest. Ty Cobb. The featured relic up to the opined grade highlighted by a stunning deep well imaged presentation of colors that are perfectly focused. The yellows and greens in the background perfectly define the slate gray of Cobb's road Tiger uniform while the rose-colored hue in the famed batsman's face lends depth to the image. The centering shows a slight preference to the right edge while the top to bottom measurements slightly favor the bottom edge. Each of the four corners stands up to the grade with the lower points showing an ever so slight blunting at the advancement of the corners. The surface seems aglow underneath a fine layer of fragile gloss that seemingly elevates the card from the norm to the sublime. The reverse is pleasingly printed with a deep well emblazoned Sweet Caporal cigarettes advertisement showing forth with no hindrance of staining. As clean and fresh of example as you will encounter in an assessed grade of EX/NM, with that said we are much more inclined to grade this card NM. A tremendous opportunity to add this world-class Cobb card to your high-end holdings!
