Though his name doesn't appear with the top legends of the sport, it can be argued that no one was more successful at the game of baseball than Willie Keeler. At 5'4" and 140 pounds, it's as if Keeler studied the concept of the game and devised a strategy that would maximize his productivity given his slight stature. Simply, Keeler was a master at placing a batted ball exactly where he wanted it, surveying the field to find any small opening in which he could drop a bloop hit. This unique skill set propelled Keeler to a lifetime .341 batting average and two National League batting titles. The diminutive Keeler is perfectly presented on this stunning T206 card, one of three with a Piedmont back graded PSA 8 with just 2 graded higher. Dead-centered with a solid NM/MT frame, the most alluring trait is the marvelous pigmentation of the central image, ripe with blue and green coloring that ably depicts a partly cloudy day at the old ballpark. A well-registered image of Keeler, hands positioned well up the handle of the bat to maintain his pinpoint control, is the final piece of a well-assembled puzzle. An elite-level card in virtually any collection!
