Graded NM/MT 8 by PSA. By the time Ty Cobb retired in 1928 he held an awesome 90 Major league batting records, but was known as much for his fierce unbridled competitive nature and fierce determination as he was for his on-field exploits. The featured esteemed collectible is a perfectly centered example of Cobb’s red portrait pasteboard from the ever popular T206 issue. A blood red background surrounds the sullen image of the fiery Cobb whose facial characteristics are brought forth by a perfectly focused depiction as well as keenly accentuated shading. The four corners stand at the very epicenter of the assessed grade each one appearing to form a perfectly formed 90 degree angle save for the lower left which displays a fine wisp of minute wear to the very tip of the corner. The surface is ablaze with a smooth sheen of original proportions elevating the offered card from the norm of examples displayed on tables at the average card show. The Sweet Caporal Cigarette advertisement on the reverse is accurately placed upon the stock as well the image is clean with no thought of stray ink or staining. A stunning card offered at the upper tier of the NM/MT grade.
