Up for auction is perhaps the single finest T206 Tolstoi reverse Christy Mathewson "Dark Cap" variations extant. Graded before PSA classified T206 cards by their reverse, the pop report presently lists the highest graded specimen with a Tolstoi reverse at just PSA 4. The offered specimen, graded NM PSA 7, boasts virtually perfect centering with NM corners joined by NM/MT edges around a positively shimmering image of "The Christian Gentleman." One of the "five immortals" elected into the inaugural class of the Hall of Fame, Mathewson appeared in four World Series, posting a combined 0.97 ERA, and he ranks #3 on the all-time wins list.
