Graded VG 40(3) by SGC. A majestic hue of purple mountain majesty surrounds the figure of the tragic hero known as Joe Jackson. Offered is the rookie card of the player who affectionately was known as "Shoeless" a moniker gained during his South Carolina youth. Jackson is pictured here as a member of Connie Mack's Philadelphia Athletics, with who he played a mere ten games before Mack shipped him to Cleveland for the light hitting Bris Lord. Jackson was known as something of a "rube" while enduring his time in Philadelphia by both his teammates as well as management. When he resurfaced in Cleveland, however, his teammates accepted his country ways and limited education in exchange for his immense talents on the field. Once left alone to ply his trade, Jackson batted a robust .408 during the 1911 season and smacked an astounding 26 triples the following year. The offered relic is one of astonishing pride, as if some young caramel-coated, sticky-fingered kid knew of the importance this pasteboard would one day enjoy. Symmetrically centered from left to right as well as top to bottom, the offered pasteboard enjoys a significant dose of aesthetic appeal with a light plum colored background lending a perfect contrast to the oft white Philadelphia uniform worn by the great batsman. Each of the four corners while worn, display a gentile curvature that reinforces the mindfulness that previous owners paid to this cards level of preservation. The key attribute to this exceptional offering is the all important depiction of Jackson in a nearly perfectly focused image, with the shading of the background as well as the red lips being exact in their appearance. The reverse of this splendid collectible appears offered on a opaque white palate with a deeply black emblazoned advertisement exclaiming that the offered subject is one of one hundred Baseball Caramels, offered by the American Caramel Company of Philadelphia, PA. A stunning and altogether captivating offering of the rookie card of the great Joe Jackson.
