Graded EX-MT 6 by PSA, this is the one and only example in current population and one of just 2 different subjects assessed at the EX-MT tier for grading. This represents the highest grade ever handed down by PSA for this issue. The subject is Hall of Fame pitcher "Big Ed" Walsh in a bunting pose from this scarce and highly regarded postcard set, issued by the Novelty Cutlery Co. of Canton, Ohio. The PC805 Postcard series is considered one of the most desirable of all baseball postcard issues. In fact, these cards have long been sought after by collectors both for their extreme rarity and unique design. This very attractive example of Ed Walsh is one of only fifteen Hall of Famers in the Novelty Cutlery set. Walsh had a brief though remarkable major league career. He made his major league debut in 1904, and from this season through 1912, Walsh averaged 24 victories, 220 strikeouts and posted an ERA below 2.00 five times. He also led the league in saves five times in this span. His finest individual season came in 1908 when he went 40–15 with 269 strikeouts, 6 saves and a 1.42 ERA. He still holds the record for lowest career ERA, 1.82. The offered example boasts four square corners, exhibiting only honest wear, while free of print defects, and bolstered by problem free reverse. The finest in our hobby!
